Under her direction the program has grown from only 17 students in 1997 to over 150 students today. Clark High School now offers many orchestral performing groups on different levels, including two string orchestras and a full Symphony orchestra. Mrs. Nguyen's orchestras have won numerous awards and recognition locally and nationally at festivals in Colorado, Disney World, New York City, and across Texas. Her orchestras also carry many consecutive superior ratings and Sweepstakes honors for UIL orchestra contest. Mrs. Nguyen also teaches Music Theory at Clark High School and is very involved with community programs such as the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio and the University of Texas at San Antonio String Project. Mrs. Nguyen has a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin, and has studied viola privately with Roger Myers and Allyson Dawkins. Along with teaching, she plays violin and viola for the Mid-Texas Symphony, Corpus Christi Symphony, and Victoria Symphony Orchestras. Mrs. Nguyen is frequently invited as a clinician and judge for other orchestra programs in Texas. She is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Orchestra Directors Association, the American String Teachers Association, and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association. When she is not teaching, Mrs. Nguyen enjoys riding her horse, reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband Tom and daughter Elena.
